I'm feeling particularly geeky today.

The nature of bariatric surgery. Some days I'm very energetic, others completely lethargic. Today has been the lowest energy day to date.

One of the problems is that the protean supplements have gone from tolerable to revolting. The cheery "Tastes great" on the packaging is a lie! Just because the lab rats couldn't stop eating the stuff...

So I get to work very late, and my boss pounces on me nearly instantaneously. Less than a minute in to the conversation it goes from "What have you been doing, where are you, etc..." to "Do what you can to keep from falling further behind". It could have been much worse.

Thinking it was lack of food, I head out to the local Asian market (Uwajimaya) to grab something I can eat; I'm thinking Miso soup.

Rule of thumb, don't buy dairy products in the Asian market. Their selection is small and they needed to do a price check.

The miso soup I bought was imported from Japan. Unfortunately, the instructions were in Japanese as was the rest of the packaging. Kindly, they had instructions in English on their website (and I would have guessed correctly, instant miso soup is very easy to make).

And here I thought I would need to run their website through an online translator.

A slow Tuesday

A wonderfully grey day in Seattle.

My first day back on a normal schedule; I'm short on sleep and work is less than engaging at the moment. Hopefully I'll wake up here in an hour or three.

Or maybe I can grab a nap.

A new beginning

It's been two weeks since my surgery and two months since beginning my pre-op diet. At this time I have lost around 1/3 of my weight loss goal. Observations at this time.

  1. 60 pounds lighter and I am feeling rather energetic. Walking a friend home today and she wanted to slow down for me. I was pain free and rather wanted to walk quite a bit faster than she did.
  2. Mentally I am ahead of where I would expect. Several people tonight commented on how happy I seemed as well as more than one person telling me I had a "sexy vibe" or energy.
  3. The pinched nerve in my right leg appears to be getting better. Unfortunately, this has the effect of making the tingling sensation occur more often. It may be time to see a neurologist.
A quick time line of notable events leading up to today with an emphasis on weight loss events.

1997 - 1998: Go through nasty breakup, grab onto diet at the time and drop from 376 to 245. Take several photos of me at that time. Have gall bladder removed. Gain all the weight back.

2006: Run across photos of me in the 270 pound range on my website, research sustainable weight loss methods.

September 2007: I take the first step in looking at bariatric surgery. I bring Kat along to seminar so that I have a second opinion as well as informing someone close to me as to what I am contemplating.

October 2007: Finish up initial medical testing.

Winter 2007-2008: Have serious second thoughts about surgery.

March 2008: Break 400 pounds, start pre-op diet. Finish surgery prerequisites.

April 2008: Get vital records and health related paperwork into order.

April 25th: Check into hospital, surgery preformed.

April 27th: Leave hospital.

May 5th: Attempt to return to work. Last two hours.

May 10th: Hit 340 pounds. Break BMI of 40.
